LETS MAKE A CUP

You will need these things.

The grinder can be electric or hand type. The best is a burr grinder - Amazon has tons of grinders. Does not have to be an espresso grinder

The water kettle can be anything you can boil water in, even a container in a microwave works, but a nice kettle with a spout is best

A scale will help but you can do it without one if needed.

Grab 18 grams of Mesa Vista beans

If you don’t have a scale, use about 2oz by volume (2 shot glasses)

Grind the beans - shoot for medium to course grind - More course than table salt

Turn on your kettle and get the water hot

If you use our Light/Dry KS roast use about 210 deg F

If you use our Medium roast shoot for 200 degree F

If you use our Bold roast go for 195 deg F

Install filter in V60 and wet it to clean and heat

You can pour some hot water from your kettle over the filter and discard that water. This will wash the filter and heat the V60

Some people like to wet/wash the paper filter by simply running it under the tap at max hot, this works fine.

Set the V60 on your cup and the whole thing on the scale if you have one.

Dump in the ground coffee and give it a shake to make the bed level

Start the timer on the scale or your phone and pour in 60g of water trying to wet all the coffee.

If you don’t have a scale use just enough water to get the coffee wet no more

Grab the spoon and quickly stir gently to wet all coffee grounds - Let sit until timer hits 60 seconds for coffee to “bloom”

After timer hits 60 sec, pour in another 100g water trying to wet all the coffee in the V60. Should take about 10 seconds to pour in the 100g

If you don’t have a scale fill the water to about half way from the coffee to the top edge of the V60, see picture while stiring

Use your spoon to move the coffee stuck to the sides of the filter to the center of the filter. Just one lap around in each direction should work.

Pour in the last 100g of water wetting all the coffee again

If you don’t have a scale use the picture below to show about how full the filter should be…a bit more than this

Give the V60 a “swirl”, just 2 shakes and let it sit.

Let it all sit until about 3 min total time. At this point the water should be about gone and the coffee bed showing as in the picture.

Don’t let it sit too long or the coffee will get over extracted and taste bitter

If most of the water has not drained you ground too fine.

If it drains well before 3 min you ground too corse

Remove the V60 and give the coffee in your cup a quick stir and enjoy!

SET UP TUNING TIPS

1) Pour too fast, takes less than 3 min = grind finer

2) Pour too slow, takes over 3 min = grind more corse

3) Coffee week or thin = grind finer so the water is in contact with the coffee longer

4) Coffee tastes acidic, or bitter = going more course

5) Dark roasts need cooler water to not taste bitter

6) Lighter roasts need warmer water to bring out the floral notes

7) If you want more acidic taste grind finer and let the water sit until 4 min total
